Recreation Ground & Play Area

Information about the recreation ground and play area

Huntley Parish Council owns and manages one site that is used for exercise and recreation – the Recreation Ground . The Council has ambitious plans for this asset  and would like to access considerable funding to make the necessary improvements.
Over the coming years due to new housing developments required to meet the Forest of Dean’s housing targets, there is a possibility of up to 120 new homes within the parish boundaries, with a population increase of over 300. This growth will bring with it an increased demand for high quality local recreation facilities for recreation, sport and physical activity. This provides an opportunity for the Parish Council to access Section 106 developer contributions for this purpose to put towards facility improvements. This is in addition to fund raising carried out by the Recreation Ground charity. We understand that to take advantage of future funding opportunities there is a requirement to think strategically, understand local need, and set out our priorities.
The council has produced a Recreation Ground Strategy which proposes improvements and recommendations for the next 10 years (2026-36), whilst ensuring that the rural nature of the site is maintained. Having a strategic document in place outlining key priorities and objectives will enable the Council to be much better placed to provide clarity on priorities, achieve the recommendations and identify the funding sources to make the strategy a reality. Our vision is to:
Provide a thriving community with access to quality sport and recreation facilities that are well used, well maintained, and meet the diverse needs of a wide range of individuals and groups.

The council carries out monthly safety checks on the recreation ground, including the play area. The annual inspection can be found here.

The football pitch can be hired out on request. The current hirers are Huntley Football Club and  Newent & Gorsley youth teams. The cost of the pitch hire is £20 per game, which includes the use of the goal posts, nets, corner flag and line marker (no paint). The Football Pitch Hire Agreement can be found here.
